Does vitamin C protect the gums?

It is true that a vitamin C deficiency causes bleeding disorders which cause gums to bleed, but this is rare in developed countries. No studies have shown that taking vitamin C improves gum health, except in the case of an actual vitamin deficiency.

However, a varied and balanced diet, rich in fruit and vegetables, and low in refined sugar (sweets, biscuits, cakes, etc.) is good for the health in general.
